California readers will likely recall the famed basketball career and media antics of Dennis Rodman. Rodman was a part of the NBA Bulls in the 1990s, a team that made many of the sports players famous. Now he is in the headlines for failing to pay child support to his former wife, Michelle Rodman.

According to a report, Michelle filed a petition in court seeking payment of more than $800,000 in child support that Dennis Rodman owed to her. This amount was in addition to the $51,441 that the former basketball star was said to also owe in spousal maintenance. However, Rodman says that he is unable to pay what he owes.

His inability to pay for child support comes after reports indicate that he is addicted to alcohol. At the height of his professional basketball career Rodman was earning $9 million per season. In addition he amassed large funds through endorsements and a brief movie career. He will likely be asked to account for how he lost the cast sums that he earned in the past and about his potential for future income as a part of the child support process.

As is the case for parents in California, the child support order to which Rodman was subject was mandatory. It is unclear just what penalties he may face due to his failure to pay, though in some extreme cases jail time and fines are imposed. When a person finds that they have not been paid what they are owed, they may wish to seek information regarding the collection process in California.
