It is important for parents to obey court orders regarding custody of their children. If a parent purposely disobeys court orders regarding child custody, he or she may end up having future legal problems in California or in any other state. Some parents who are not pleased with the court's decision sometimes interfere with the other parent's custodial rights. This seems to have been the case recently with one 28-year-old mother.

The mother had maintained custody of her 10-year-old son, which was against what the court had ordered, for the last several years. This prompted law enforcement officials to investigate the situation at about 6 p.m. one evening in early August. The boy reported ran away after the officers arrived; however, when officers caught up with the boy following a short chase on foot, the boy bit the hand of one of the officers.

Apparently, the boy's mother had told the child to run from the police as well as his father. The police officer who was bit by the boy sustained a minor injury but no charges were expected to be filed right away. The authorities returned the boy to the 32-year-old father who was given full custody of the boy by the court. The court order also did not give the mother any parenting time.

This case illustrates what could happen if one does not follow a court order regarding child custody in California or in any other state. It may have been a better idea if the mother had followed the proper legal channels to change the custody order for her child. Instead, the law enforcement officials were forced to take action in order to enforce the father's custody rights.
