After months of legal wrangling in court, famous hip-hop artist Swizz Beatz and his Russian ex-girlfriend have reached a settlement concerning their 3-year-old daughter. A judge in a Manhattan family court sealed the deal, which includes $42,000 in legal fees in addition to the agreed-upon child support payments. In the sort of case California lawyers deal with every day, the rapper and successful hip-hop producer paid what was owed, including the legal fees.
The mother was awarded a judgment against Swizz Beatz, which would have allowed her to seize his assets or freeze his bank accounts if he continued to avoid payment. The action followed the rapper’s agreement to the child support settlement in July. The couple’s 3-year-old will now presumably be assured of a financially-secure childhood, despite the rapper’s subsequent marriage to Alicia Keys with whom he also has a child. However, if the hip-hop artist does not continue to honor his ongoing obligations, he could find himself the subject of further enforcement proceedings or collection activities such as wage garnishment.
With receipt of a check for full payment from Swizz Beatz, the mother’s claims were successful. Battling through the rapper’s stubbornness, his ex-girlfriend’s attorney secured payment and possibly sent a message to other non-custodial parents seeking to avoid similar obligations. The rapper is said to have fathered four children with four different women, according to his lawyer. A California attorney intent on helping custodial parents obtain and collect necessary child support payments may assist in holding responsible parties fully accountable.
