Fight back against false allegations of domestic violence

On Behalf of Cullen Family Law Group | Nov 15, 2016 | Domestic Violence |

No one can argue that domestic violence is a serious, ongoing problem in California and the rest of the United States. Every day we see and hear about the terrible consequences of these crimes. Broken lives, horrific injuries, traumatized children and even death are just a few of these consequences.

We don’t wish to minimize the problem of domestic violence, but we would like to tell you about another serious problem in our state. False allegations of domestic violence can be nearly as devastating for those accused. Victims of false allegations do not wear their injuries for all to see, but the scars sometimes run just as deep. Further, the children and family members of those falsely accused must also suffer the consequences.

It is difficult to pinpoint exactly why someone would falsely accuse another of domestic violence, but the allegations often occur during divorce or other serious family law issues. The accuser may think this is the only way to gain child custody or to remove a person from his or her life. Regardless of the reason, false allegations of domestic violence must be taken seriously and those accused should fight back against these accusations.

While it is tempting to confront the person who is accusing you, that could be a mistake, especially if there is a chance either of you could become angry. As you might expect, you will benefit from solid legal advice as you work to defend yourself. More importantly, it is crucial to follow this advice until the matter is put to rest once and for all. You will find additional advice on protecting yourself against false domestic violence accusations on our website.
