Top signs that your marriage is headed toward divorce

On Behalf of Cullen Family Law Group | Sep 12, 2023 | Divorce |

Almost every marriage has its ups and downs. In most instances, spouses who find themselves in conflict figure out how to resolve the matter and move on.

If you’re reading this blog post, then you’re probably wondering when your martial disputes aren’t just uncomfortable disagreements, but a sign of a failed marriage, thus justifying divorce.

Signs that it’s time to consider divorce

Everyone has a point when they’ve had enough in their marriage. But that line isn’t the same for everyone. So, as you analyze your set of circumstances, consider if any of the following exist and, if so, whether it’s enough for you to start thinking about divorce:

  • Infidelity: It’s usually hard to rebuild trust after your spouse has cheated on you, which is why this is a major cause of divorce.
  • Differing priorities: The things that are important to us change over time. If that leads you and your spouse to grow apart, then you both might be happier without your marriage.
  • Lack of intimacy: If you and your spouse no longer have physical and emotional intimacy, then you’re likely losing interest in each other, which can spell the end of your marriage.
  • Substance abuse: Drug and alcohol addiction can strain a marriage and lead to a volatile situation. If your spouse is dealing with this issue, then it might be time to consider divorce so that you can keep yourself safe and your spouse can focus on rehabilitation.
  • Domestic violence: If you’re in a violent relationship, then you need to find a way to safely divorce your spouse. That may be the only way to find true protection.
  • Your only focus is your children: If you’re only staying in your marriage as a way to protect your children, then you should reassess your circumstances. After all, remaining in a toxic relationship that leaves you unhappy isn’t going to be good for your kids.

Are you ready to initiate divorce?

If so, then you’re bound to face a lot of emotional and legal challenges. But don’t worry. You can ease your concerns by being fully prepared heading into divorce.
