We can help answer your property division questions

On Behalf of Cullen Family Law Group | May 20, 2016 | Property Division |

As you head toward divorce, you may have a lot of questions about the property division process. It can be one of the most complex and hotly debated parts of any divorce, and you want to make sure things are done in a fair fashion. We can help answer all of your questions, including the following:

1. Who is responsible for the debt? Remember, assets are not the only thing that must be split up. In some situations, the way that the debt is divided is even more important.

2. What are you going to do with your real estate? For many people in Los Angeles, their home is the most expensive and important thing that they own. Do you want to try to keep the home? If so, can you get an agreement that makes that affordable on your own? If you want to sell, how can you sell quickly and for a good price so that the money can be divided?

3. Are there any hidden assets? You may be surprised by the number of people that try to hide assets when they know a divorce is coming. It’s very important to identify all of these. Ways to hide assets include putting them in offshore accounts or giving them to family members. For instance, your spouse may try to clean out your bank account and give all of the money to a brother or sister so that he or she can claim there is no money to be divided — but then your spouse can get the money back after the divorce is finalized.
