Your Previous Residence Affects Child Custody
The Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction and Enforcement Act (UCCJEA) controls child custody litigation. Most states have adopted the federal act. It requires the child’s home state, where the child has lived for the past six months, to have jurisdiction for any child custody litigation. If your child has not lived in one state for more than six months, the Court will evaluate your child’s connections with a state.
If you are an out-of-state parent and your child’s home state is California, we can help you with your litigation in the local family court. We understand the UCCJEA and how the act requires uniform enforcement of child custody orders. We can also help you modify a current child custody order if you have relocated or moved out of state.
